Setting the scene
You're steeled for action. You've established your Task Team. You're bringing your A-game, embracing the challenge and the season for what it is, finding silver linings everywhere (because they're there!) and galvanising the troops for a really tough but potentially life-defining season of growth and opportunity. What now?
Next, you've got to position the ship and the crew to survive the storm, which means ensuring adequate rations. But how long will the storm last? How long do we need rations for? Do we, therefore, have enough? What can we do about that?
Perhaps this describes your situation? Let's put it in business terms: "I know I've got to make sure there's cash runway to make it through the crisis, while preserving precious assets (key people, skilled staff, key customers, etc.). But how do I do that when I don't know what the future holds? How long will lockdown last? And partial lockdown? And the subsequent economic depression / recession? What will the implications be for my revenue, and therefore cash flow? What, practically, should I do about it? Do I cut costs aggressively and risk harming the crew and ship, or go easy to protect the crew and ship but risk going under? And how do I pay my own bond and school fees through this time?
If you're wrestling with those questions, you're not alone. These questions are tough to answer with the future so murky.
That's why we need Scenario-based Planning: to be ready to adapt and lead well - with clarity, appropriate action, speed, and compassion - regardless of what the future holds.
The videos in this module will introduce you to WHY? and HOW? to develop future revenue scenarios for your business, based on an uncertain market environment, and subsequently develop a plan to 'survive and thrive' through each of those scenarios. It will also cover an approach to pivot between plans as appropriate. This toolkit includes all the tools you will need, and guidance on how to use them, to help you get off the ground fast.
