"My parents always told me to follow my passion," Nhlakanipho recalls. "Their belief in me made all the difference". This support gave him the confidence to push ahead, opening Mkhize Rooftop as more than just a restaurant. Today, it's a vibrant multifunctional space offering meals, hair services, a car wash and so much more, all while bringing the community of KwaMashu together.
Honouring a grandfather's legacy
For Nhlakanipho, Mkhize Rooftop is more than just a business, it's a tribute to his late grandfather. "When my grandfather passed, we were still building the business," Nhlakanipho says. "I wish he could see it now, but my grandmother always tells me he's smiling down with pride". In honour of his grandfather, Nhlakanipho has named all of his businesses under FNB after him, ensuring his legacy lives on through everything he builds.
